Update on Leith Links Public Toilets
Temporary closure of Leith Links public toilets.
Leith Links public toilets have experienced repeated drainage issues. Investigations have identified that these problems are being caused by a combination of foreign objects entering the drainage system and a construction issue within the underground pipework. Together, these have led to blockages and temporary service disruption.
To avoid continued disruption and repeated closures, the City of Edinburgh Council has made the decision to temporarily close the permanent toilet facility while essential remedial works are carried out.
Temporary toilet provision
During the closure period, temporary chemical toilets, including an accessible cubicle, have been installed within Leith Links to ensure continued provision for park users.
These temporary facilities will be:
- Regularly cleaned and serviced by our colleagues in Facilities Management
- Monitored by Council colleagues to ensure they remain safe and usable
You can find a full list of public toilet locations across the city on the Council’s website.
Timescales
At this stage, the temporary closure is expected to continue into early 2026. Subject to final technical approvals and programme confirmation.
Further updates on progress and reopening will be shared later this month.
What happens next
The Council is working closely with its contractor to implement a long-term solution that will deliver a more reliable and resilient drainage system, reducing the risk of future disruption.
We appreciate that this closure is inconvenient and thank everyone for their patience while we complete this essential work.
