Edinburgh Nature Network – Linking Leith’s Parks

Learn more about the Edinburgh Nature Network and our pilot project for this in Leith.

Background

The Edinburgh Nature Network is the first Nature Network in Scotland! Developed by the Thriving Green Spaces project, Scottish Wildlife Trust and the University of Edinburgh, it is all about connecting up, creating and improving our natural spaces across Edinburgh for the benefit of people and nature.

The first part of the project identified 200 plus brilliant actions across the city that would create our Edinburgh Nature Network!

Here is the link to the Edinburgh Nature Network storymap and map of actions.

Linking Leith's Parks

The pilot for our Nature Network is in Leith – where we are looking to deliver the fantastic actions in the area.

We have received funding from greenspace scotland to create plans and designs for nature conservation in parks, and this project will focus on parks within Leith. Once the plans have been developed, we will look for further funding to deliver these plans.

For this, we will be working with Atkins, Landscape Architects, to create an overall plan for the area - to look at actions to connect greenspaces in Leith for the benefit of people and wildlife.

We will also be specifically drawing up plans for 6 parks:

  • Tolbooth Wynd
  • Mill Lane Park
  • Taylor Gardens
  • Keddie Gardens
  • North Junction Street Park
  • Dalmeny Street Park

We will be holding workshops (both online and in-person) in May and June to get thoughts and feedback specific to the parks listed above.

Here are the dates for the May workshops:

In-person workshop: Thursday 4th May, 6pm-7.30pm, Duncan Place (EH6 8HW)

Online workshop: Tuesday 9th May, 6pm-7.30pm - this will be on Microsoft Teams (link sent to attendees nearer the time)

Come along to our upcoming events to have your say in the plans for these parks!
